“Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right” – Oprah Winfrey
As I get older it blows my mind how much faster a year flies by… seems like not too long ago we were all in a tizzy about Y2K and now, somehow, its 2012. How did that happen? I decided a few months back that my New Year’s Resolution was going to make more use of the hours given to me in 2012 than I have in past years, and for some reason I thought the best way to kick this off was to sign up to run in the 2012 Boston Marathon… all 26.2 miles of it.
I’m about a month into my training program now (running upwards of 11 miles A DAY!) and
realizing that I am starting to dislike running and the whole waking up at 5:00 am business to make sure I get in my miles for the week. None of this hard work was on my mind when I signed up last fall, when it was still somewhat warm outside and the race was 7 months away… all that was promised was the satisfaction of running in the world’s most well-known running event.
However, training for a marathon isn’t really any different than running a successful online auction with BiddingForGood. Just like a marathon, you cannot just expect that the results will appear in your auction without putting in the work on the front end. Obtaining items, organizing your your email database(s), signing up for or updating your social media sites and updating your BiddingForGood auction site are just some of the many steps that need to be taken before your auction goes live. Typically, when you are thinking about working with BiddingForGood you are thinking that this is the tool that will allow your organization to take its fundraising efforts to the next level… and you 100% are correct. But, as with most things in this world, it does take time and many weeks and months of work before the auction is fit enough to go live (or in my case, cross the START line).
The best part about starting a new year is that everyone is already aware that things have the opportunity to be different. No other time of the year allows for so many of us to say “I can do better” and people actually believe it! So, whether it's launching your first online auction or your fifth, you can take yourself and your organization to the next level with a little hard work. I plan on doing that with my resolution and you can do that with yours!
