Crowning All Dads! Create Lasting Memories This Father's Day
According to CNBC, Mother’s Day is the second biggest gifting holiday on the calendar behind Christmas. As a mom, I think we deserve all the attention surrounding the day. But what about Father’s Day? I bring this up because I recently attended a Mother’s Day Tea at my son's school. When I arrived, Christian, my three year old, was sitting nicely at a table and when he saw me, he picked up a hand-made corsage and squealed “Mommy, Mommy!” He came running over to the door where he slid the corsage on my hand and then brought me to my seat. We shared a pot of iced tea and some chocolate chip cookies. He then gave me a poem and a questionnaire named “About My Mom." According to his answers I am three years old, my favorite color is blue, and I take my kids to the store… for fun.
I was so touched by the event and came home with a Popsicle stick flower centerpiece with my son’s picture in the middle. I recounted my event with David, a.k.a. Daddy. He couldn’t wait for his turn to do something similar in fashion for Father’s Day. And then it happened. We got the school newsletter. It stated that there would be “Donuts for Dad.” That sounded nice. But then we realized it wasn’t going to be the same caliber event as I had attended… or even an event at all. Dads will be able to grab a donut while dropping off their kids. No special invite. No handmade crafts. No poems. No thank you.
David asked the school why they weren’t doing anything special for Father’s Day and they told him that “they like to spoil the moms.” Considering David dresses our two darling children, feeds them, gets them to and from school, and packs their lunch every day; this didn’t seem fair. My heart broke for him. He deserved his own popsicle stick artwork that he too, could call his own.
At BiddingForGood, we haven’t forgotten about how special dads are and how much they do. We know that there are lots of dads out there who play an important role in their kids’ lives. Shopping on BiddingForGood isn’t just about buying something that gives back, but about creating memories. I can’t think of anything that David would like more than to take Christian to see a baseball game with VIP Yankees tickets. I would be known as the best partner ever if I splurged on a trip to Tuscany, a guitar signed by Maroon 5, or tickets to the 2013 Kentucky Derby. BiddingForGood has all of these items and thousands of other unique items and one-of-a-kind experiences. Anyone can find that something special they know their dad would love and deserve.
We will be away for Father’s Day this year so Christian threw his own version of a Father’s Day celebration this past weekend. In attendance were Christian’s Daddy, his stuffed puppy, doggie, monkey and bear. They drank out of their mugs, designed and decorated by Christian. They ate chocolate chip cookies that Christian had baked and there was even a poem and a present. It was here that their first Father’s Day tradition was born. David not only cherishes his home-designed coffee mug, but also the paper crown Christian made for him. While wearing the crown on his head and sipping his cup of coffee, he also got to feel like his son’s hero… which he is.
Wishing David and all you other Daddys out there a wonderful Father’s Day.
