Mary Kennedy and Donna Summer Inspire BiddingForGood
Sadly, Massachusetts lost another one of our community members. Mary Kennedy, age 52 and wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has taken her life just yesterday and is set to be laid to rest tomorrow in Hyannisport. I have a special place in my heart for the Kennedys, a family plagued by great tragedy. Having spent my summers on Cape Cod for my entire life, seeing glimpses of any of the Kennedys was always exciting. With the upcoming Figawi Regatta in Cape Cod, I am saddened that we will not see Ted Kennedy’s boat sail through Hyannis to Nantucket, but even sadder that another Kennedy is gone.
Mary Kennedy was no stranger to philanthropy. Today, the Boston Globe reported that Joseph P. Kennedy III has labeled his late aunt Mary Kennedy “a tireless advocate for the causes dear to her heart, a beloved member of our family, and, above all else, an incredible mother who loved her children fiercely.”
Born and raised in our own backyard of Boston, MA, Donna Summer just lost her battle to breast and lung cancer at the age of 63.
As BiddingForGood remembers the Queen of Disco's legendary hits, we are reminded why we get up in the morning. We get up in the morning to help nonprofits raise money. This money could get us closer to finding a cure for these diseases which take so many lives. The trend that we have seen from our recent gender study is that men and women both agree that giving to health and human service organizations is important. Hopefully, these charitable donors will continue to give to health organizations that spend every moment of every day fighting for a cure.
Donna Summer herself was a do-gooder. In 2007, she took the stage of at the 14th Musician 14th Annual Race To Erase MS "Dance to Erase MS" charity event on April 13, 2007, in Century City, Calif. I am sure that people across the country will be bringing their fundraising events/galas to a close with Summer’s anthem, “Last Dance.”
While we send our deepest condolences to the families of these iconic women, BiddingForGood will continue to get up every day to offer the best tools for charities to help individuals in need.
