Shop Once, Give Twice for Mother's Day

BiddingForGood Mother's Day ShoppingWe are gearing up for Mother’s Day, which is coming up on May 13th, so this week’s headlines are focused on gifts for Mom that give back. Ready… set… shop!

Buy Mom a Card, Make a Donation

TechCrunch reports on a new app from Sincerely Ink called Sincerely Giving, which allows you to send Mom an e-card for Mother’s Day while also supporting charity. The e-cards are pricier than your typical Hallmark variety (they range from $10 to $20) but your virtual gift is a donation and will satisfy Mom’s soul much more than a box of chocolates. At least 70% of the proceeds from the sales of these cards goes to the charity and Mom receives a note describing the donation (i.e., with a gift to Thirst Relief, it says that one card provides a person with safe drinking water for 25 years.) Sincerely Giving is live now via Sincerely Ink in the App Store.

Lady Godiva Program Launches for Mother’s Day

For moms who want both chocolate and charity (that's me!) for Mother’s Day, the folks at Godiva have you covered. As reported in MediaPost, Godiva is offering “FEED 10” tote bags for sale ($25) in Godiva stores and on According to Godiva, each bag purchased will provide 10 school meals to children in African cocoa-sourcing countries. The FEED bags are part of The Lady Godiva Program, the company’s first global cause-marketing initiative, which recognizes women around the world who contribute to their communities and inspire other women to do the same.

Moms Want Meaningful Gifts

Did you know that Mother’s Day is the second-most gift-giving day in the country, after BiddingForGood's Kaijsa Kurstin's Wish ListChristmas? CNBC reports that consumers are expected to spend an average of $152.52 on Mother's Day gifts, up about 8% from $140.73 last year, according to a National Retail Federation survey. A recent Harris Interactive poll found that nearly two in three people said they wanted a “meaningful” gift for Mother’s Day this year. If you are looking for gifts with heart check out my recent BiddingForGood Mother's Day wish list post.

HuffingtonPost Shares #MomWants List

Huffington Post Parents turned to the Twitter-verse to ask moms what they really want for Mother’s Day. Moms can tweet their wish list to @Huffpostparents #momwants. So far, the top request seems to be for peace and quiet over gifts. The slideshow of responses is available here. We vote for gifts AND peace and quiet. Happy shopping!
